Dental Extractions
The words “tooth removal” may seem scary. At Smile Hilliard, we only recommend an extraction when the tooth is beyond saving and pulling the tooth becomes necessary. We use modern technology to keep you comfortable during this quick procedure, which in most cases, is performed in the comfort of our office.
Why Remove a Tooth?
We will do everything we can to save your tooth. There are times, however, when an extraction may be the best option to keep you and your teeth healthy. In these instances, an extraction helps you:
- Stop infection caused by a traumatic injury
- Prevent the spread of further tooth decay
- Replace teeth that have significant bone loss
- Alleviate excessive crowding that is pushing teeth out of alignment
- Remove retained baby teeth
What to Expect
If we determine that an extraction is necessary, we’ll discuss the procedure with you and answer any questions you may have. During the procedure, we’ll use local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort you may feel. If necessary, we can prescribe medications to assist with relaxation during your procedure.
In many cases, Dr. Sanyk can perform the procedure comfortably in our office. However, in complex cases such as a badly impacted third molar, we may work with a specialist for treatment.
